Wimbledon Village is not just about eating and drinking and haute couture; it
is also home to a number of galleries, antique shops and jewellers. As all of
them are independents, they bring a welcome variety of personal styles and
pride themselves in their individuality and quality of service.
Three art galleries sit side by side in Church Road giving a wealth of choice
in the fine arts and each with their own portfolio of painters. Between them,
they handle everything from Victorian watercolours to large abstracts and
Impressionism to Contemporary Realism. One of the galleries is run by a
professional artist who also works to commission and runs courses. Conveniently
there is a picture framers opposite.
If it is antiques you are looking for, again, the Village offers variety. One
can browse amongst curios and figurines or head for antique glass decanters and
oriental carvings. There is also a specialist in 18th and early 19th Century
English furniture who also offers a quality restoration service.
The Village has a selection of goldsmiths and jewellers. Distinctive in design,
one specialises in commissioned engagement rings whilst another deals in
traditional jewellery, watches and some antique pieces. The latter will also
handle repairs. In this, the prettiest of London’s Villages, you have quality,
originality and variety, all within a stone’s throw of one another.
