Cannizaro Park Awarded Green Flag

The beautiful and historic Cannizaro Park, located just a few minutes walk from Wimbledon Village on the west side of Wimbledon Common, was assessed in June and received official confirmation last week that it is a worthy recipient of the prestigious Green Flag for 2023/24.

The Green Flag Award® recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for managing recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and worldwide. The scheme is run by Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Catherine Nelson, Chair of the Friends of Cannizaro Park, commented: ‘The high standards underpinning this prestigious award are not achieved overnight. They are the result of strong and respectful partnerships between Merton Council, the Friends of Cannizaro, park contractor idverde and supporters within the local community. And of course, the award’s bedrock is the hard work of dedicated Friends’ volunteers, week in and week out, as well as generous support from all our Friends and donors.’ She added: ‘It is our hope, as a Friends organisation, that this award will encourage more people to come and enjoy the landscape and the wonderful tree collection in Cannizaro Park. It also provides reassurance of good management for potential donors, as we begin an ambitious regeneration programme across the next five years.’
