Enjoy the Common Responsibly

The beautiful green space of Wimbledon Common has been a lifeline for many local residents during lockdown.

Now the Government has eased lockdown measures and visitor numbers remain very high, it is important that visitors continue to use the Common responsibly:

Ensure all litter is disposed of appropriately – and taken home if possible.

Please walk to the Common if possible – the Windmill car park is open once again (from 7.30am – 8.30pm) but with larger spaces to allow for social distancing so capacity is halved. When it’s full the barrier at the end of Windmill Road will be lowered. Toilets remain closed.

Dogs can now be walked off leads (except in restricted areas which are clearly signposted) but dog owners should ensure that dogs are kept under control at all times. All dog walkers should pick up after their dogs (the amount of dog waste being left has significantly increased).

Cycling is only permitted on the designated shared use pedestrian and cycle tracks.

The Common Conservators continue to issue regular information and guidance updates on their website, Facebook and Twitter feeds to ensure we all use the Common safely and protect the wellbeing of the Commons hard-working staff during the COVID-19 outbreak.

So whether you’re going for a stroll, a run, walking the dog or enjoying a family picnic or bike ride, if you are planning to visit the Common please do take a look at these guidelines first.
