Treat yourself to time to write and learn how to tap into your creativity in the inspiring atmosphere of Wimbledon’s quirkiest historical home.

Each Saturday session is an autonomous workshop, so you can book them separately or jointly. Discounts will be given for multiple bookings. See booking website for details.

Saturday 5th March : A Writer’s Secret Dairy
This first session explores ways to activate our creativity and apply it to those everyday stories that make us who we are. Learn how to observe and write detail and discover the patterns that criss-cross your day to day: you will be writing in no time.

Saturday 12th March : Traveling To The Past
This workshop focuses on writing about adventure, nostalgia and reminiscence, with tips on how to tap into our feelings and articulate our own memories so we can convey those moments that often capture a whole life.

Saturday 26th March : On The Heels Of Mystery
This session focuses on writing plot, suspense and intrigue. Learn how to grasp your reader’s attention and make your writing engaging and seductive. No better place to try your hand at intrigue than Southside, which was the home of a spy for fifty years!

Saturday 2nd April : About Love — And Unlove
Who hasn’t fallen in love once? And fallen out of it? This workshop tackles the joys and pangs of writing about these universally shared experiences. Learn how to make your own story unique and find ways to express romance, intimacy and separation beyond ready made tropes.

Saturday 23rd April : Haunting Visitors
Ever tried to write about the supernatural —magic, portents and apparitions? Whether you are a believer or a skeptic, these stories teach like few others how to give voice to our own doubts and obsessions.

Saturday 7th May : A Thousand And One Tales — Special Session
This special afternoon session will be conducted in Southside’s gardens. It will focus on the craft of fairy tales and oral tradition and examine how stories are woven into each other. Attendees will try their hand at making their own those timeless stories at the base of human culture. The workshop will conclude with a storytelling picnic in the gardens.

Saturday 14th May : The Voice Within
This final session will focus on how to recognise our own writing voice and develop it into a style that allows us to write any story that touches our sensibility. It will also review the different skills acquired throughout the Spring writing sessions and look at strategies to cultivate them in longer term personal projects.
